A boutique hair salon in the heart of Subiaco, Los Pastel specialises in blonde and long hair colouring, and regularly has workshops in the evenings. Activities like colour mixing, photoshoots, and night sessions meant that colours and lighting is our number one priority when designing for this space. ​

The design reflects the fun & modern culture of the salon. We worked to incorporate pieces of existing custom art and mirrors into the new design. White walls and a subdued concrete-coloured floor act as a great canvas and anchor for the pops of colours we introduced in this space. 

We pay extra attention to the materials used, especially in how these materials interact with both natural and artificial lighting throughout the day. We examined how reflections from these colours will potentially be cast on surfaces as to not interfere with any work processes. Details including mirrored ceilings changed a typical wash station into a statement piece and an otherwise dull stairway into an exciting "journey".

Circulation and invisible boundaries were created without any solid walls to keep the space connected and open. The abundance of mirrors used created lots of opportunities for interactions between staff & customers. The space reflects onto itself, allowing staff to easily monitor their surroundings, thus increasing productivity and comfort, and most importantly improving customer service.
