Lt. Miller and Nightingale Brunswick East was a collaboration between Clarke Hopkins Clarke, Breathe Architecture and Openwork.

Formerly proposed as one large development, Breathe collaborated with the lead architect and developer to cleverly divide the building into two distinct communities. Fronting Nicholson St is a Nightingale building, with a communal rooftop laundry and a series of commercial tenancies to activate the street.

On the quieter, residential street is Lt Miller, a set of boutique apartments built with similar sustainability principles to its neighbour.

Breathe reworked the interiors for this project, refining apartment floor plans, joinery designs and material palettes, whilst also providing sustainability consultancy.

Both of these buildings are 100% fossil fuel free in operations. An all-renewable embedded energy network provides reduced metering costs and running costs, while usage is offset through on-site solar energy production. Electricity at Lt. Miller and NGBE is supplied via an embedded network using a variety of renewable energy sources to power all apartments as well as common areas

Lobbies and corridors are naturally ventilated in both buildings with plants on all levels. A 20,000-litre water tank collects rainwater and assists in irrigating the landscape that surrounds it. The project holds a 7.5 Star NaTHERS rating average.

Australia’s most awarded sustainable design firm, and its most dependable.

Our Approach

Breathe undertakes meaningful projects we can be proud of — those that align with our purpose and values.

Since we focus on maximising positive impact, many of our projects don’t fit the common definition of ‘architecture’.

We work to understand who we’re designing for. We strive to inspire, engage and support our clients and the broader communities we serve.

We prioritise social, environmental and economic sustainability in every project. We question the status quo to pursue outcomes that are informed by, and seek to better, those that came before.

Above all, we prioritise ethics along with aesthetics, and design without ego, to create the best outcomes for our clients and their communities.

At ArchiPro we recognise and acknowledge the existing, original and ancient connection Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to the lands and waterways across the Australian continent. We pay our respects to the elders past and present. We commit to working together to build a prosperous and inclusive Australia.
