Artful Timber Fusion

When Maiko Nagao (@maikonagao) told us she had been looking for a natural timber product "for a while" for a project she was working on, we knew we had just the right thing. She had been inspired by timber profiles she had seen overseas, which fitted together to create unique surface textures. Exactly what we specialise in. Maiko is an artist and designer, known for her minimalist line drawings using Japanese Sumi ink to create bold, raw and expressive strokes. Her art features in many homes around Australia and New Zealand. This project was her first home renovation, and every part of her home was designed or co-designed with New Zealand businesses. After settling on our Ninety-Mile Profile, she threw us a curve ball, or rather a curved kitchen island. Maiko wanted our profiles to wrap around not one but two curves. After some consultation with our machining team, we came up with a solution. It has proven so popular that the resulting profile is now named the Maiko MD05. We were thrilled with the end result. Maiko kept the finish natural, showing off the features that make Radiata Pine so unique. Ninety-Mile NM03 now features on a wall in her living room, and the new Maiko MD05 profile wraps her kitchen island. They are made from FSC® certified premium clear-grade Radiata Pine (FSC® C131052), free of knots and visible defects, with other species such as Tasmanian Oak available on request. The Maiko profile is available on request. Profiles can be supplied pre-finished to your colour and specification, or unfinished for finishing on site.
