By Metalli
Metalli was thrilled to be part of The Marlborough Library and Art Gallery project. We were named the manufacturer of the perforated panels that make up the façade. The impressive 3600m² building showcases the stunning facade, which is made up of 256 individual perforated panels made from 5mm aluminium. These panels feature a unique custom design in the shape of an 'X' and boast a total of 50,000 perforated holes.
Metalli was honoured to work on the panels' design with the architectural firm Warren and Mahoney and the construction company Robinson Construction.
By day, the façade’s bronze colouring glistens in the sun while playing a major part in limiting the building’s solar energy consumption. The interior of the building is filled with unique shadows cast by the exterior panels, making the environment a unique place to be. By night, the building transforms and showcases the façade in a completely different perspective, further enhancing the building's aesthetic appeal.
As predicted by the Marlborough District Council, the Marlborough Library and Art Gallery is the ‘cornerstone feature’ in the Blenheim CBD. The façade has received praise and has been described as "the true hero of the building."
