We created flexibility within a framework whereby architecture itself may adapt and support the ever-changing needs of an individual and community.

Our inspiration for the design concept is based on the life cycle, focusing on sustainability whether this is the individual, the community, the landscape, the farm, the building or the act of construction itself.

The design is based on providing sustainable, affordable housing and actively providing employment opportunities to the residents via small retail and office spaces on the ground floor, the restaurant/café with the adjoining productive roof garden, the future Innovative Entrepreneur Hub and the offsite Living Village PreFab Warehouse allowing for a variety programming and adaptability according to the needs of the development.

Climate change and sustainability have been carefully considered for the landscaping. Increased amount of severe weather events and further development of our city centres have decreased the amount of natural permeable surfaces to handle stormwater runoff. As a result, stormwater infrastructure, drainage ways, pits and waterways are put under immense pressure giving rise to more flooding events.

The design addresses this issue on multiple fronts with the following stormwater runoff reduction design strategies:

• Green roofs and Productive Gardens
• Permeable pavers
• Bioswale and water detention system with slow release to groundwater aquafers

The module design is such that all apartments adhere to the minimum dwelling sizes, with balconies, living areas, kitchens and bathrooms designed and built specifically to Silver standard of the Liveable Housing Australia design guide and Better Apartment Design Standards. The modular design not only ensures minimum standards are met, but also increases the flexibility for a diverse range of households.
