Formal by day, luminous by night — this Mosman estate covers every brief a family could have. Structured planting and sandstone at the front, an upper terrace pool capturing harbour views at the rear, and an extensive lighting scheme that makes the whole property work after dark.
This Mosman estate presented a rare opportunity to design a garden with genuine breadth. Working alongside a Giles Tribe Architects home, the brief called for a formal front garden, a family-ready rear, and a property that could be enjoyed long after the sun went down.
The front garden sets a considered tone. Pleached Snow Pears frame a rectangular lawn while a custom copper water bowl and sandstone walling create structure and focal points visible from both inside the home and the street. Perennial planting was chosen for texture and seasonal colour, with sight lines carefully managed so the garden rewards from every vantage point.
The rear garden was designed around the realities of an active family on a steeply graded site. An upper terrace sits alongside the architecturally designed pool, capturing harbour views and providing generous space for entertaining. Below, a formal lawn and quarter basketball court are planted out with the same palette as the front, tough enough to take the wear but refined enough to hold the overall character of the estate. Custom sandstone bench seating ties the two levels together with quiet practicality.
An extensive lighting scheme transforms the property after dark, turning a garden designed for daytime living into one equally at home for evening entertaining.
