The brief, here, was to fulfill the client’s dream of an ultimate outdoor kitchen, dining and entertainment area. And so the designer embarked on a journey with her clients to completely alter their backyard into this private interactive and communal gathering space.

Three distinctive cooking appliances were incorporated into the design – a specialist wood-fired pizza oven and fireplace, a gas BBQ and hobs in the island, and a freestanding charcoal BBQ. These allow friends to congregate and socialise around different cooking sources – ideal for this alfresco kitchen.

Materials were chosen for their low maintenance, longevity and ability to withstand inclement conditions. For extra protection, durable covers were designed for each area when the kitchen is not in use. Ambience, music, umbrellas and lighting were major factors the designer considered, and all, including the wine cellar, can be controlled by iPhone.

A shed, hidden from view by lush vegetation, was also designed to hold a 2000-bottle wine collection, plus space for extra refrigeration and storage.

To meld the whole design together, the designer engaged a landscape designer to work closely on the planting and paving.
