By Greg Natale
Like a jewel box, this Midtown Manhattan apartment reveals its treasures with the opening of its front door. Chic navy blue is a defining element of the design, from the painted walls of the entrance and living areas to the patterned wallpaper in the master bedroom and the rugs throughout.
Contrasting this are white ceilings, cornices and skirting boards and black-stained oak floors, for a crisp, tailored look, between which different plays on pattern take place, highlighted by metallic accents.
Greg Natale created higher ceilings in the living area by installing white crown mouldings and faux beams to suggest a larger space, introducing detail with malachite patterned wallpaper in the ceiling panels. With a snakeskin-print rug below, and rugs elsewhere in geometric and organic prints, the effect is cocooning and opulent.
Vintage pieces feature to striking effect in the apartment, while gold and brass in furniture, lights, sculptures and accessories bring a beautiful gleam. The effect is a polished space, layered with pattern and luxe finishes, which speaks of sophisticated city living.
