Black has always been my favourite colour – or absence of colour, so when the Mt Maunganui land owners shared similar visions of massing black the concept was embraced. A tightly planned 190 square metre two story design producing an exterior of visual simplicity; crisp black elevation lines, accenting cedar walls, with the single biggest design success is the copper-steel-clad box, which confidently asserts itself to the street frontage. An instant urban landmark in the context of the surrounding neighbourhood.

With contemporary ambitions and an appreciation for excellent design, our clients were excited by our vision of pushing the envelope to achieve a strikingly different home with a balance of apartment scale and small home configuration.

We got straight to work designing a space-efficient home with a sophisticated twist – an urban response to a 325m2 site with a delicate mix of affordability and architectural prowess.

The two-storey design features an exterior of visual simplicity; crisp, black elevation lines, accenting cedar walls and a beautiful copper-steel-clad box which confidently asserts itself to the street frontage (becoming an instant urban landmark).

Embracing contemporary smarts and a design-enriched environment, we kept the interior simple, white and functional, contrasted against ebony black joinery and a feature cedar stair wall. Carefully considered angles throughout the house capture all day sun, while full height glazing invites the living area to expand out on to the cantilevered copper box deck where cinematically framed views of Mauao await.

Testimonial:

“We had the pleasure of choosing the polished professionals at JMAC to design our beautiful home and would recommend their services to anyone looking to partner with a company that really knows their stuff.

From day one it was a collaborative process; JMAC matched our lifestyle and long list of needs to the design and brought a level of sophistication and fresh ideas that made the finished product so much more than we could’ve ever imagined. This collaboration extended to the great relationship they built with our builder, and together these small interactions coupled with JMAC’s advice and willingness to work together ensured our build was nothing short of a dream.”
