Nestled on a coveted corner plot that Meaghan handpicked in Riverside Mosman Park, Owston Hill stands as a testament to her architectural vision and passion. This project was a departure from typical constraints—unshackled from any predefined owner’s brief, it became a canvas for Meaghan’s creative prowess. “When I design homes for clients, there’s always a dialogue,” she explains. “But creating for an unknown client pushed me to focus on a highly adaptable design and nuanced interior choices.”

Overlooking lush parklands that fringe the local golf club, the residence seamlessly integrates with its natural setting, crafting a retreat that melds the indoors with the outdoors. The home draws inspiration from the majestic old gum tree on its eastern flank, employing a sophisticated palette of olive, gold, and brass. This includes bold touches like the golden steel staircase that dances with the natural light.

Meaghan describes the home as “timeless, neutral with a subtle yet powerful presence.” It offers a flexible backdrop for personal expression through vibrant art and furnishings. Mobilia’s contribution is spot on, with striking pendants and contemporary floor coverings enhancing the space. Meaghan, a fan of Perth-based sculptor April Pine, incorporated Pine’s work into the design, including ‘Flutter’, a smaller piece showcased at Cottesloe’s Sculptures by the Sea in early 2020. A magnificent Magnolia, in full bloom by late spring, anchors the design, visible from various vantage points and echoing the gold and green motifs throughout.

As you step into the entry hall, the space unfolds into an open-plan living, kitchen, and dining area, where the abundance of light and greenery creates an inviting atmosphere. Expansive glazing forms a seamless boundary between the living spaces and the north-facing garden and pool, reinforcing the home’s indoor-outdoor synergy.

To the west, the ground floor hosts the kitchen, scullery, and laundry, with an intriguing dusty pink garage that adds a splash of color. The white Bowral bricks, a recurring element, link the interior and exterior, nodding to Mosman Park’s rich heritage while embracing a modern aesthetic.
