A dramatic transformation of an existing hillside home in Tairua, where sculptural architecture, natural light and enduring materials combine to create a contemporary coastal retreat overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Retaining the existing concrete base while rebuilding the levels above allowed the design to create a bold, sculptural form that responds to both the steep terrain and expansive ocean views. A diagonal roof ridge, cantilevered upper level and continuous vertical Abodo cladding give the home a strong architectural presence while remaining grounded in its bush-clad setting.
Inside, generous glazing fills the home with natural light, while carefully framed views and warm timber detailing create a calm and welcoming coastal retreat.
