About This Project
This family home has been with the one family for 28 years and they have always been aware of the potential of the large, by Inner West standards, block. They have also been aware of the inherent qualities of the well preserved 1914 double fronted federation cottage.
It is in a heritage conservation zone opposite the beautiful Hoskins Park in an area becoming increasingly popular for its strong sense of community.
Our brief was to preserve the front of the cottage, create a link between old and new, and create a whole new contemporary space at the rear. Links to the yard are strengthened by a pool attached to the cottage – a rarity for Dulwich Hill.
Accommodation will comprise of four bedrooms plus one parents suite on the proposed upper floor, and two separate living areas.
Construction is primarily of ICF’s, an expanded polystyrene concrete filled blockwork. This material has excellent thermal properties, but also excellent acoustic shielding as planes do at times fly over.
Photo voltaic panels collect electricity with provision for battery storage.
Rainwater storage is underground, a part of the pool construction, with a capacity of 18,500 litres.
The best of the old and the new
We work with you to design the places where you live, work and play.
We listen to your ideas, visions and dreams and work with you to achieve them.
The process of dealing with councils can be daunting. We have over twenty years of experience running a design practice in Sydney and have in that time dealt with most Councils and experience a wide range of project types and challenges.
Our clients come to us looking for solutions to projects in residential, commercial and industrial categories. Heritage is a large part of working in the more established areas of Sydney.
Our projects have been featured in media including print and television, including Grand Designs Australia and work with Selling in the City.
Our name reflects that the process and production of our built environment brings with it a responsibility to be an agent of positive change. Benefits should be felt and experienced not only by our clients, but also for all others impacted by it. This is especially true in regards to our use of resources during construction, and the long term consumption of resources.
