The initial step involved selecting the right building, and Redd Barna found a gem in HasleTre, a wooden office building in Oslo constructed by Oslotre. This choice significantly reduced the project's carbon footprint and added the flexibility of relocation if needed, due to the modular construction of the building allowing for complete dismantling and rebuilding. The building also boasts BREEAM certification, highlighting its environmental credentials.

Inside, Romlaboratoriet, a specialist in sustainable workspaces, took charge of interior design. The workspace concept focused on three distinct zones based on noise levels. There was a dedicated focus workzone with traditional desks, a collaborative area with shared tables, and an agile space designed for various activities, from eating to events.

Redd Barna (Save the Children), a leading independent organization dedicated to improving the lives of children worldwide, embarked on a transformative journey with their office relocation project, strengthening the brand and sustainability efforts. The objectives were clear: reinforce their identity, promote responsible environmental practices, and embrace activity-based working patterns.

Redd Barna collaborated with Flokk, a renowned furniture manufacturer, for their new office project. Flokk brought not only a commitment to sustainability but also stylish and ergonomic seating solutions that catered to the diverse needs of the workspace.

A remarkable 60% of the furniture was reused, a combination of reclaimed from their previous office and bought used through a supplier, refurbished to meet the new office's standards. A significant portion of the new furniture was designed by Flokk. Additionally, several HÅG Capisco chairs by Flokk were reclaimed from their previous office, refurbished with new textile and serviced with a 3 year warranty.

Flokk's seating solution aligned perfectly with the three core criteria required: sustainability, comfort, and aesthetics. All three chair designs - HAG Capisco, HÅG Tion, and HÅG Celi – incorporate recycled materials, are designed for disassembly and come with a precise carbon footprint measurement through Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). They deliver essential ergonomic support, and were specified in a matching colour scheme that seamlessly blends in with the workspace environment.

The strengths of each chair were selected to match the workzones they were placed in. HAG Capisco ensured extended comfort for high-focus areas, HÅG Tion provided support with a smaller footprint for collaborative zones, and HÅG Celi's stackable design promoted well-being in the more relaxed flexi-space.

Additionally, soft seating options including Profim Chic lounge chairs and Profim Vancouver Oto pouffes provided spaces for relaxation and unwinding. Flokk's designs come with extended warranties and core components designed for a lifetime, emphasizing their longevity and repairability, further reducing environmental impact.

Flokk seating played a significant role in creating a sustainable, functional, and beautiful office space that aligned with the brand identity and purpose of Redd Barna. The choices not only embraced sustainability but also catered to the diverse working patterns of the organization, ensuring a comfortable and supportive environment for their staff and visitors alike.
