With their children flying the coop, the owners of this much loved family abode engaged Cloth + Stone Designs to redesign their home that required considerable refurbishment.

The brief included the creation of an open plan living and dining area, a new entry way and stairs, an updated master bedroom and walk in robe, two guest bedrooms, a media room, a laundry and two study spaces. Cloth + Stone Design’s vision was to create a number of elegant and comfortable spaces for the next phase of the client’s lives. Spaces that would work well for two, yet also be flexible enough to accommodate visiting family and friends. The home had been significantly renovated over the years and was modern in its overall style, offering a blank canvas to work with.

Inspiration from the beautiful views of the Sydney Harbour and leafy surrounds influenced the colour and material palette. Layers of blues in varying shades from light to deep navy, contrast with warm, earthy tones of bronze, salmon and blush through to soft neutrals encapsulate the palette.

“Our clients love colour and pattern so we were eager to adopt a bold scheme. Natural materials and textures add to the warmth of the interiors and feature heavily, including honed marble in the master bedroom dressing area and living room fireplace, textile prints and velvet scattered throughout, crown cut timber veneer and hemp wallpaper” says Kate Hardy, lead designer.

In the dining area, a bespoke banquette features two different yet complementary fabrics that are both practical and cosy. Back cushions covered in Mokum Eternal, a timeless linen, are paired perfectly with Mokum Nirvana for the seat cushions, specified for its heavy duty upholstery attributes and elegant colour palette.

The dining area overlooks the sunny garden where the clients can sit happily reading the Sunday paper while having breakfast or hosting 8-10 guests for dinner. In the living area, the space was reconfigured to add much needed extra seating and storage.  Scatter cushions in Mokum Vienna, and Designs of the Time Sandor sit beautifully on the dark blue Jardan Andy sofa.  A contemporary design brings together the colours of the chosen palette.

For the master bedroom, a luxurious hotel look and feel was desired. Specifying a palette of rich navy walls, grey deep pile carpet, warm fabrics and walnut veneer joinery, Kate has designed a relaxing and elegant space. A statement Jardan Arana chair and ottoman covered in Mokum Vienna offers a beautiful and luxurious feature, contrasting with the dark blue hemp wallpaper and is softened by an abundance of full length Mokum Satori curtains in 100% linen.

A bench seat covered in Designs of the Time Sandor completes the bed, connecting the colours and adds subtle detail. Guest bedrooms have been beautifully finished with stylish upholstered bedheads. James Dunlop Maxime, a relaxed linen with a luxurious viscose chenille and Mokum Canvas, a graphic pattern were teamed up with coordinating plain linen valances in Mokum Eternal.

In the media room a sofa in Mokum Coupole provides a subtle sheen against the velvet cushions in Mokum Vienna. With a focus on Australian design and craftsmanship, Cloth + Stone Design’s have achieved a cohesive and stylish feel for each space, threaded together through the considered selection of colours and materials that reflect the surrounding waterfront location and the client’s lifestyle.
