When Massimo Speroni was given the brief for this project, the clients wanted a space layered with eclectic elements that were brought together, as if collected overtime. Inspired by modern, retro sensibility, an interior design style comprising a mixture of textures, time periods, styles, trends, and colours. To achieve the look of a curated eclectic space, Massimo focused on rooms that married old and new, antique and contemporary, serious and fanciful. For example, a streamline contemporary mirror paired with a vintage sheep sculpture, to highlight - through contrast - the independent beauty of each piece. Eclectic decorating also appeals to Massimo because, as a designer, it provides him a dynamic canvas to express his imagination and whimsical addition. A calming neutral wall colour was used throughout as a base to layer over, and prevent the rooms from feeling too overbearing. The neutral works wonders alongside the deep burgundy and teal accent colours paired with creams and soft pinks. Patterned rugs and scatter cushions were used to subtly introduce different design eras and geometric shapes, vintage lighting and unique artwork created aesthetic intrigue. The vibrant visual of seemingly opposing patterns add fun and surprise to a space; keeping a light-hearted atmosphere. A key element to this style is contrast, and with the use of different textures like marble, smooth leather, and steel against fluffy throws, Massimo created a wonderfully creatively curated space.

“It has been an absolute delight to collaborate with Massimo in transforming our once empty Southbank apartment into a striking and extraordinary living space. Attentive to our design aspirations, Massimo masterfully captured the essence of our vision, which he described as "moody and sexy." Our goal was to evoke the ambiance of a luxurious hotel, and Massimo has undeniably achieved that. Encouraging us to step beyond our comfort zone, Massimo skilfully incorporated design elements we never would have considered. Despite our initial hesitation towards gold and bronze accents, our home now gleams with tasteful shimmer. Massimo also introduced us to an array of exquisite lighting solutions, resulting in the installation of elegant chandeliers and pendant lights in every room. Furthermore, his choice of bold wallpaper patterns, textures, and colours has created a harmonious and visually captivating atmosphere. He even incorporated floor-to-ceiling smoked mirrors on select walls, effectively expanding the sense of space. Throughout the process, Massimo's concept drawings were flawless, while adjustments were handled effortlessly. He demonstrated exceptional coordination with his trusted network of suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring a smooth workflow. As with any project, particularly in the wake of Covid, we faced challenges such as delays, material shortages, budget increases, and supply chain issues. Nevertheless, Massimo tackled each obstacle with patience and proactivity, alleviating our stress by offering practical solutions and maintaining forward momentum. Today, Massimo is a cherished and well-respected figure within our apartment community, and our home is fondly referred to as "oh THAT apartment," a testament to his exceptional work that fills us with immense pride. Massimo is not only an incredibly gifted interior designer but also a consummate professional and engaging collaborator. We are sincerely grateful for the opportunity to have worked with him on our project and wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone seeking to elevate their living space into a remarkable and unforgettable home.”
