A thoughtfully designed courtyard in Richmond Hill that enhances functionality and aesthetics, featuring a curved brick sitting wall, lush garden plantings, and contrasting bluestone paving for a harmonious outdoor retreat.

This long narrow space in the rear of an inner suburban home needed a new courtyard design to improve its functionality as well as its appeal. It had a nice sense of privacy with surrounding walls but felt a bit like being in a cell.

A curved, brick sitting wall was designed to break up the long space as well as to disguise its cell-like nature of it. The sitting wall also contained garden plantings that would soften the walls and provide some soothing greenery. New bluestone paving gave a nice contrast to the red brick as well as giving a functional and stylish base.

“Not only does Gary have an amazing ability to turn vague ideas into a beautiful landscape plan, he is also such a pleasure to work with. With the help of Gary, we've been able to plan a much more appealing and usable backyard than we could have imagined, that all ties in beautifully with our surroundings.”
