It is not so often these days that one finds a U-shaped kitchen so Poggenpohl was delighted to be asked to design one for these clients in Royal Oak. The company has very-efficient solutions for kitchen-corner storage, two of which were used in this design. The fronts under the bench were blossom white, but all the tall units and the “drinks bar” fronts were natural oak timber veneer. The use of the timber veneer added warmth, elegance and a degree of the traditional.

The tall units, right along one wall use vertical negatives for opening and hence are without handles. But elsewhere in the kitchen the use of an aluminium-anodised handle that is the full width of the top of the front adds nice design lines. The ovens are KitchenAid, the gas hob is Fisher and Paykel and the extractor is a Gutmann Llano. This is a very ‘slimline’ rangehood that can extract straight out the back. This feature was necessary because the height between the benchtop and the bottom of the skylights was minimal, given the niche height required for gas cooking. The stainless-steel fronts of the  Fisher and Paykel refrigerator/freezer and the dishdrawers add further contrast. The benchtops are twenty-millimetre thick Silestone Calacatta Gold quartz with a waterfall end to the floor. The black toekicks separate the different timbers of the floor and the tall units.

The drinks bar is part of the overall design with its bottle storage below and shelves, lit with LED strips and behind glass doors, above.  It is a nice finishing touch in the living space and one with which the clients are very happy.

Improving the kitchen since 1892

Founded in 1892 in the heart of Germany, Poggenpohl is the oldest and best-known kitchen brand in the world. From that day to this, we have followed the vision of our founder, Friedemir Poggenpohl, who set out to ‘improve the kitchen’.

For more than 120 years, Poggenpohl has continued to ‘improve the kitchen’, transforming it from a humble backroom into a living space that’s at the heart of the home. Our pioneering history includes many firsts, including white lacquer kitchen furniture, ergonomic work-top heights, and the development of the kitchen island.

Technical expertise, materials of the highest quality, meticulous craftsmanship and trend-setting design go into every Poggenpohl kitchen. At our factory in Herford, Germany we pay the utmost attention to detail and aim for perfection in everything we make. That is the Poggenpohl way.
