ABOUT THE PROJECT
Six High delivers all the benefits of a cost-effective townhouse development without being the typical, development driven multi-residential project. The street itself is a mix of single residential properties and multi dwelling housing ranging from detached residences along the northern side of the street to duplexes, boarding houses, townhouses and 1960’s unit blocks on the south. Six-High is an amalgamation of its context, fitting within the typology of the multi-dwelling housing but maintaining a small residential feel.
The site is tight, falls slightly away from the street and does not meet the lot width constraints required by Council. Although this created challenges on an administration level, the construction itself demonstrates how the ‘typical Australian house’ can be reimagined and re-zoned to accommodate multiple inhabitants suitable for a range of functions. To this end, Six-High contributes to the urgent discussion around sustainability and Australia’s unhealthy obsession with oversized housing.
The completed project offers three considered and superior-built residences, providing appropriate density in an urban area. Designed with open plan living area, polished concrete floors and 2.7m high ceilings, Six-High is a sophisticated alternative to the typical townhouse development.
