South Melbourne House - The Scandi makeover that brought an architecturally designed family terrace to life
Featured: Houzz’s Project of the Week
Kristy and her husband are the proud owners of a beautifully renovated double-storey Victorian terrace. The architectural makeover their home has been given blends its stunning period features with bold industrial elements, creating something truly breathtaking and highly functional for family life.
Kristy wanted the interior styling to match the home but found that between her busy career and full family life, she just didn’t have the time to source and shop for the perfect pieces – especially without knowing for sure how everything would look once it was in the space.
She wanted a home she could be proud to entertain in, but that would also become the perfect sanctuary for her family to relax in. The design had to have some wow factor, but also be practical for family life and work with the architectural elements of their home.
Here’s how we stepped in and worked our magic to give this family a home with the wow factor they deserved.
Entry:
Our aim was to create a calming space for Kristy and her family to pass through whenever they entered or left their home, by using functional furniture and decor to keep keys etc. organised, muted colours, and artwork that took inspiration from natural landscapes.
Dining space:
Our vision for the dining area included the introduction of a circular dining table to create better flow within the space, paired with plush, comfortable dining chairs to inject some wow-factor and provide the perfect contrast to the vertical greenery in the lightwell.
Living space:
When it came to the living room, we knew King Living’s Zaza sofa in a stunning textural fabric would suit the brief perfectly. It’s luxuriously comfortable and practical for Kristy’s family, but also sophisticated in its design, and provides the perfect anchor for this integral part of the family’s home. We also suggested original artwork by talented local artist, Clare Dubina, for the living room walls.
Ordering & Delivery:
We solved issues with delayed items by sourcing great alternatives for those pieces that Kristy was open to swapping. When pieces that Kristy wanted to keep as per our initial recommendation were delayed, we liaised with suppliers to make additional deliveries when the items became available, at no extra charge.
We helped Kristy exchange an item that had been damaged in transit (it happens sometimes, unfortunately!) by dealing with the supplier on her behalf.
"Our family home has now been taken to a new level! We not only love the beautiful design but the feeling of calling this space our very own has brought us much comfort and confidence within our lives. It's hard to find the perfect balance between practical and stylish but FURNISHD. has definitely exceeded our expectations!"

Founded in 2021, Furnishd is a fast-growing interior design and furniture procurement-focused studio that helps clients discover, curate and invest in stunning products that elevate their space.
For everyday Australians, the idea of hiring an interior designer often remains less explored due to cost considerations, so the conventional furnishing process tends to get quite intricate. With a multitude of online retailers, showrooms, brands, colours, fabrics, and sizes, this complexity can be overwhelming and often results in costly mistakes.
We don't think that's how it should work, so we're changing it with Furnishd.
To make great design accessible to every home, we are democratising access to bespoke design services with STUDIO, and reinventing an empowering and personalised shopping experience with SHOWROOM. With 1:1 expert guidance and curated product selection, Furnishd ensures a truly elevated and personalised furnishing experience.
