Dunedin’s St Margaret’s College halls of residence 100 year old slate roof had fallen into disrepair, it was leaking, cracking, falling off the building, and creating condensation issues.
Bruce Cowan, the deputy headmaster of St Margaret’s summarised the challenge as “we needed to replace the roof with modern materials while doing justice and retaining the historic look of the building”
Ecostar roof tiles
These durable tiles made from recycled materials are designed to emulate the look of slate. Ecostar ensured that the building had a roof that was in keeping the original style but was also a modern product. Ecostar is made from 80% recycled rubber and plastic and is half the weight of typical slate roof tiles.
Majestic slate Ecostar in the Midnight Grey was installed, at half the weight as slate the pressure on the old building was halved while retaining its classical elements.
The installation work was of the upmost quality and the roof was safe, condensation free and watertight.
