Summer House is a set of five townhouse residences located in the highly covetable heart of Byron Bay. Originally built in the 90s, the external structure provided a base shell for whitewood to undertake a comprehensive interior renovation. The client – a Sydney-based developer with ties to the area – approached the project with the intention of creating homes for long-term residency, as opposed to holiday rentals.

With a mix of three-bed and two-bed configurations, each of the townhouses are built across two levels. By stripping back the interiors, whitewood focused on creating a refined, timeless design to give these homes a whole new life.

The colour palette draws from sunset hues, featuring blush and earthy tones, alongside mellow greens to bring a sense of warmth. The design seamlessly blends city sophistication with coastal charm, utilising timbers in a crisp, contemporary style.

A key part of the renovation was integrating a series of skylights in the living space and ensuites. This injection of natural light into every space helps to elevate the once-dim interiors. While the external openings were maintained, the bathrooms and kitchens underwent a strategic reconfiguration to enhance functionality. To add to the feeling of long-term liveability, each townhouse includes private landscaped deck areas, to offer a unique oasis. The emphasis on high-quality materials, including engineered stone, European oak timber floorboards and custom 2-pac kitchens, reflects the commitment to creating a series of homes to truly live in, not just to visit.

Summer House stands out as an investment in coastal living with a city-inspired touch, providing a unique blend of design and functionality.
