We named this piece "Sunset at the Rainforest" in relation to its gorgeous setting. It was designed specifically for this stunning, entirely black bathroom in Lakeside Estate, Queenstown.
The piece is placed above the bath tub, from where you can watch the sun set over the green hills and mountains that surround the property. The moss tones are kept dark and the black frame is painted deep black to match the atmosphere of the bathroom, while standing out due to its natural and vibrant features. For this project we used Bun, Fat, Flat and Reindeer moss in several different dark green shades.
We got involved in this project by Stuart Bateman, interior designer from SB Design after he had seen our works at McKenzie and Willis in Queenstown. This was the beginning of our collaboration with Stuart. We are proud to say that he saw a huge potential in what we create at Gaea and how he can utilize our unique product in his future designs.
During a site visit we discussed the different style and moss options. There were a number of ideas Stuart had in mind, from a waterfall design to three symmetrical shapes to a circle to match the mirrors. After designing a visualization of all ideas Stuart and the client agreed that the circle would make the perfect design
Each customized project we design is an adventure on its own. We listen to the client, observe the space where the art will be placed and we try to find a connection between it all. This project was a great first introduction to Stuart’s style and vision.
Moss has been found to be effective at removing pollutants from the air, such as formaldehyde and benzene, making it a great addition to indoor spaces. It also adds a natural and calming element to the room. Since it does well in areas where the humidity is between 40% and 60%, placing it in a bathroom without indirect sunlight is the perfect area for this type of art.
