Brief

The clients' vision came to life on 802sqm stunning sea-side block of land, where they sought to address the fishbowl effect of living in close proximity to the ever popular, Takapuna beach.

Initially featuring a 60's modernist house, the clients desired a contemporary aesthetic that would reflect the existing modernist house while exuding a timeless quality.

Natural Habitats was appointed to design and build the landscaping elements to compliment the home's architectural features.

The clients' vision is realized on a beautiful sea-side block, with the original 60's modernist house transformed into a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic. Situated on an 802m2 section, the design showcases an ingenious interplay of space and carefully selected landscaping elements.

The captivating entry features a double-height atrium, zigzagging staircase, and a striking palm nestled in a sunken planted feature. Concrete, copper, and timber create a harmonious blend of textures and aesthetics throughout the space. Upstairs, the master bedroom offers panoramic views, while the enchanting bathrooms feature intricate white mosaic designs. The green roof lines the passageway seamlessly integrating nature into the surroundings, providing respite from the built environment.

Capturing a Hamptons-inspired aesthetic, the design achieves a striking balance between city-chic sophistication and beach-house casualness. With a northeast orientation and views of Takapuna beach, the site's natural beauty is enhanced by two Pohutukawa trees. A planted baton screen adorns the space above the garage, while the lush green roof creates a vibrant foreground to the view of Rangitoto.

The culmination of this exceptional project was the recognition it received, with the home proudly winning the 2021 City Home of the Year award. This accolade further affirms the incredible work done by Natural Habitats and the vision brought to life in creating a serene cocoon that seamlessly blended architectural brilliance with nature's splendor.
