The brief was to undertake a renovation and addition that was seamlessly in keeping with the heritage of this historic gentleman’s bungalow.

Known as ‘Torrens Park Estate’, this 100-year-old property was carefully restored throughout. Exterior works included a complete re-roof featuring new Marseille terracotta tiles from Monier, while renovation works in the old part of the home included new ceilings featuring ornate cornice details, intricate ceiling panels and fireplace restoration.

Renovation works to the upstairs included an updated guest bathroom, the addition of a new walk-in-robe, new raked ceilings, a new master bedroom with shaker-style custom joinery and bespoke western red cedar sash windows with ornate leadlight. The new main bathroom features a large freestanding bath, a generous shower and a carefully restored custom antique dresser.

Downstairs, substantial structural works were undertaken to create the large open plan kitchen, living and dining space. The kitchen features shaker style satin cabinetry throughout, a statement custom island bench in vivid blue with a Caesarstone benchtop and a white Canterbury Yorkshire farmer's style sink. The original jarrah floors throughout were carefully sanded and polished to achieve the original finish.

In the new extension, a raised raked ceiling and feature wall paneling elevate the living space, while underfoot, meticulously laid travertine tiles laid in a French pattern flow throughout the new living and dining spaces. The space is complete with an Escae fireplace and TV wall. New large sliding sash windows with colonial leadlight detailing also are in keeping with the home’s character.

The result is a home rich in quality craftsmanship down to the little details that seamlessly integrates old and new.
