Pool Retreat in Browns Bay

To create three defined uses in the backyard to meet the growing family’s needs including a pool retreat area, a flat lawn for the son to play soccer on and socialise with his friends. Then the lower level requires a fully complete entertainment area with outdoor kitchen, fridge, braai fireplace, pizza oven and barbeque complete with louvre-tech shade. All these different elements need to be design in harmony to create a private, secluded area for the family to enjoy. The intent was to create a design where the elements did not feel separate from each other even though they are all on different physical levels. On the upper area the client wanted to create a pool and retreat area with an outdoor pergola secluded area and protect view from the neighbours. The retreat uses a blue stone rock wall with built in timber seating, and an elegant timber structure for the feature pergola. The pool is on the upper level and connects with the existing deck and lounge area with the pool fencing below the pool level and has planting around it to help remove it visually as a pool fence barrier. This opened the site and allowed the two uses of pool entertainment and grass lawn, where the son to plays soccer to exist in the one space and not feel separate. The fully outdoor entertainment area is down on the lowest level and is accessed from the house through the study and connects to the upper levels with the existing large stepping stone steps.
