Located on the prominent western corner of the SkyCity precinct with panoramic views across the River Torrens and Adelaide Oval, Westward is wrapped within floor-to-ceiling glazed windows. A bespoke lighting feature is suspended above the bar illuminating the space and acting as a warm and inviting beacon for guests looking for the perfect meeting spot pre or post game.

One of four new restaurants and two new bars, Westward forms part of SkyCity Adelaide’s $330m expansion. Westward was crafted as a space where patrons, both guests of the casino and the general public, could comfortably gather at either the start or end of their evening.

The clients desired a meeting place that would be more than simply a bar in the casino, they wanted a place that would hold its own identity and be a destination for both Adelaideans and international visitors.

The design intent was to create a space that balanced industrial features with more luxurious elements to deliver a sense of grandeur and elegance. Structured around the bar, the statement lighting feature is a modern interpretation of a chandelier and envelops the bar in a warm glow.

Featured design elements include rich timber paneling and brass joinery details throughout which are complemented by tactile elements such as aged leather and the rich marble of the bar. The bar itself was envisioned as a statement design piece. Firey veins of marble add drama and weave their way across the slab. The matt-like finish adds another tactile element to the overall design.
