9 Tips for Choosing the Best Custom Home Builder

1. Research reputable new home builders in Auckland:

Your new home foundation starts with choosing the right builder. Extensive research on new home builders in Auckland is essential. Look for builders with a proven track record, positive reviews, and a portfolio that aligns with your vision. Opt for companies popular for their quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

2. Consider custom home builders for a personalised touch:

If you desire a home that reflects your unique style and preferences, consider custom home builders in Auckland. These professionals consider every aspect of your home, ensuring it meets your specific requirements. Collaborate closely with the builder to bring your dream home to life.

3. Evaluate the location of your new build in Auckland:

Location is important when choosing a new construction home. Consider factors like proximity to essential amenities, schools, work, and recreational areas. Whether you prefer the bustling city life or a tranquil suburban setting, assess the neighbourhood to ensure it aligns with your lifestyle.

4. Understand the home construction process in Auckland:

Familiarise yourself with the home construction process in Auckland. This includes obtaining necessary permits, adhering to local building codes, and understanding the timeline for completion. A reputable builder will guide you through each stage, providing transparency and peace of mind.

5. Explore energy-efficient options:

With a growing emphasis on sustainability, consider opting for energy-efficient features in your new build. Look for builders in Auckland who incorporate eco-friendly practices and technologies, like solar panels, energy-efficient appliances, and insulation. This benefits the environment and reduces long-term energy costs. At Lewis Build, we are a trusted partner with Formance, specialising in building passive homes using SIPS panels.

6. Budget wisely for home construction in Auckland:

Establish a realistic budget for your new construction home in Auckland. Factor in not only the initial construction costs but also potential upgrades, landscaping, and unforeseen expenses. Working closely with your builder to create a comprehensive budget ensures that your dream home remains financially feasible. Here at Lewis Build, we help to “cost- engineer” jobs for our clients, which we call Budget-Led Design. This is where builders (often with their QS) are joined at the hip with the architect and the design team, saving our clients money later in the build process.

7. Visit our current projects:

Our prospective clients are welcome to join us for a site visit of our current projects to visualise different design elements, materials, and finishes. It's an excellent opportunity to get a feel for the builder's craftsmanship and to identify features that resonate with your taste.

8. Seek recommendations and references:

Word of mouth can be a powerful tool in the decision-making process. Seek recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues who have experience with new home builders or custom home builders in Auckland. Ask builders for references and speak directly with past clients to gauge their satisfaction with the construction process.

9. Review the warranty and after-sales service:

Before finalising your decision, review the warranty offered by the builder. A reputable builder will provide a comprehensive warranty that covers structural and cosmetic issues. Inquire about the after-sales service and how the builder addresses any concerns or issues that may arise post-construction. At Lewis Build, we recommend the Master Builders 10 Year Guarantee and attend to maintenance issues after 90 days, and again after one year of completion of the build.

Conclusion

Choosing Lewis Build for your new home construction in Auckland is an investment that requires careful consideration. By following these nine tips, you can confidently navigate the process, ensuring that your dream home becomes a reality. Whether you opt for a new home builder or a custom home builder in Auckland, the key is to prioritise transparency and quality as well as add a personalised touch in every step of the home construction journey.
