Caring for your GKD paint job

Select reliable painters

Choosing painters you can trust and will deliver a long-lasting and quality finish, is essential. If you have a painting and decorating project for your home, business, or on behalf of a client, we would love to partner with you to achieve a high-quality finish.

After care can be super valuable in extending the life of your home’s interior and exterior paint.

It is important you understand how to properly clean your walls to remove dirt, grease, or mould. First up, you need to check the sheen finish of your paint, as this determines the cleaning method.

When using any chemical cleaners or detergents it's a good idea to test them out before applying them to the entire wall. Do a test patch in a smaller more covered area and wait for it to dry, before proceeding with the entire wall.

Cleaning interior surfaces with semi-gloss or gloss finish

These surfaces shouldn’t make contact with abrasive or corrosive compounds. Instead, warm water and detergent will work best. Using a damp cloth apply to the target area, make sure to wash down with clean water and let it completely dry.

Cleaning exterior paintwork

First impressions matter, ensuring the exterior of your building looks better than good is always a priority. Contaminants in the air like salt can settle on your paint and begin to cause premature breakdown. We recommend annual washing of your home to preserve the fresh look of your paintwork.

Using exterior house wash and a soft bristle brush, broom, or cloth gently scrub the exterior paint. Apply to the entire painted area and thoroughly hose down before the wash has time to dry.

Protection starts from the top, it’s a vital part of building maintenance to keep your roof maintained to ensure your home or building is sealed from the conditions. It may not be necessary to do a full exterior paint job, our team can provide a maintenance audit on how weather tight your current premises is and whether the work can be done through repair, maintenance, washing, and colour matching to bring it up to a weather proofed standard.

Respraying

To retain the fresh look of your roof, you will need to occasionally respray it. A new coat of paint will maintain the quality look to stand out from the rest. If you’re unsure if your roof is due for a paint job, we offer a free roof assessment consultation Auckland wide alongside a complimentary roof painting quote

Moss on your roof?

Sadly, this isn’t a good sign. Moss and lichen grow in places where there is a build-up of moisture or dirt. Check your gutters and drains for signs of leaks. Luckily for you, removing moss and lichen from your roof can be done relatively easy. If you're after something a bit stronger, you can treat your roof with a chemical solution.
