The shape, style and materials of your stairs can improve visual impact, create a focal point, suggest movement and offer changing views of the landscape. They can be formal and elegant, symmetrical or romantically flowing, or informal and minimal, composed of just a few stepping stones.
You can use natural stone, concrete, brick or wood – but make sure the materials used should provide good grip and complement the surrounding paving material and retaining walls.
You could also create a focal point with the stairs, using water running alongside them or decorating statues and plants. Or you can play with multifunctional steps – providing seating or lounging space with wide steps.
Our portfolio features many examples of creative decking design for inspiration – here are a couple of examples.
North Road Project: Spotted gum decking stairs which double as pool side bench seats.
Johnston Crescent Project: Granite stairs connecting the lawn to the kids’ play area.
