From statement lamps for your bookshelf to invisible spotlights that highlight your artwork, these five architectural lights are guaranteed to transform your home.

Good lighting can bring a room alive — and when the light fixtures, placement, and furnishings highlighted by a bulb’s soft glow are carefully considered, it adds personality that sets a home apart. As specialists in designer lighting, Lucian Architectural Lighting sources pieces from the collections of the world’s best designers to bring Australia an exclusive and high-end selection.

“When choosing lighting for your home, we recommend considering these three factors: colour temperature, layering light, and material harmony,” says Laurie Giraudeau, sales director at Lucian Architectural Lighting.

“Pay attention to the colour temperature of the lights (warm vs. cool) and how they interact with the colours and materials in the room. Think about combining different types of lighting (ambient, task, accent) to create depth and versatility in the space. Ensure that materials and light fixture finishes complement other elements in the room, such as metallic finishes echoing through furniture legs or worktop accents.”

To help you add personality to your home, Laurie Giraudeau shares five beautiful, architectural lights from the Lucian Architectural Lighting collection.

Nebbia

Captivating with its rounded geometric design, tactile glass cover, and thoughtful colour palette, the Nebbia is an indoor and outdoor light that can be applied to walls or ceilings.

Nebbia comes in two sizes depending on whether you want accent or general lighting for wall or ceiling applications. Inspired by Milan's mists, it marries form with function in an indoor and outdoor nature-centric design,” Giraudeau says.

For a creative application, Giraudeau suggests using this light to illuminate artwork, photographs, or statement mirrors in your hallway, entryway, or bathroom.

Nocturnal Bilby

Subtle in design, the Nocturnal Bilby is an elegant in-ground uplight made of brass.

“This is a cutting-edge choice for architects, landscape designers, and lighting professionals seeking aesthetic appeal and technical excellence in outdoor and indoor lighting solutions. Thanks to optimised optics, the Bilby will highlight specific architectural features or landscape elements effectively. Design-wise, the brass can be aged or powder coated to fit your design style.”

Giraudeau recommends using this light to highlight archways, garden features, artwork and architectural features, or as pathway lighting.

“Use the Bilby to illuminate pathways or walkways in your garden or outdoor space by placing them strategically along the path, or position the uplights around garden features such as sculptures, water features, or large plants to highlight them at nighttime.”

Folio Giro Pivot

“Made in Italy, Giro is a series of circular-shaped FOLIO products with a thickness of only 23 mm and available in diameters of 400, 600, 800 and 1200 mm. The pivoting panels offer a soft and even illumination with playfulness and control,” Giraudeau says.

The FOLIO Giro is a great addition to the kitchen as task lighting over a kitchen island or breakfast bar. They can also be used to highlight artwork or design features in the living room, tilted gently in your preferred direction.

This light can be used to highlight artwork or architectural features for dramatic effect without drawing attention to the light fixture.
“The combination of the light’s focusable beam angle and its adjustability allows for a multitude of application possibilities while maintaining a uniform look and feel throughout the project.”

Delta Light Nime

With an aperture of only 10mm, the Delta Light Nime is all about shining a light on what’s most important.

“The combination of the light’s focusable beam angle and its adjustability allows for a multitude of application possibilities while maintaining a uniform look and feel throughout the project,” Giraudeau says.

For dramatic effect, this light can be used to highlight artwork or architectural features without drawing attention to the light fixture. Giraudeau also suggests positioning several Delta Light Nimes above the dining table to create discrete pools of light, or above furniture to accentuate your favourite piece.

Martinelli Luce Pipistrello

Designed by Pipistrello Gae Aulenti in 1965, this iconic lamp is a timeless piece fitting for any home.

“Wings outstretched, caught in the instant just prior to their complete opening. A lamp that, through its diffuser and the sinuous and curvy telescopic base, epitomises discontinuity, modernity, humour and grace, elegance and dynamism,” Giraudeau enthuses.

With its eye-catching, retro-futuristic design, the lamp is perfect as a statement piece on a side table or console.

“You could also place the Pipistrello lamp on a desk to provide task lighting for work activities, as its adjustable height and diffused light are ideal for creating a comfortable workspace. Or, use the lamp on a bookshelf to illuminate books or display items, positioned strategically to highlight specific shelves or compartments.”
