The innovative and vibrant lighting suspended from the ceiling at The Box Office’s central Auckland studio is a bold statement that creates a fun and energetic atmosphere for its community. Locally manufactured and with flexible configurations, it’s a technology with unlimited potential.

“When Kurt McKee decided to open The Box Office (a new boxing studio) in Grey Lynn, he wanted to ensure it appealed to people who may not have considered boxing before, with classes designed for beginners through to professionals, as well as options specifically for women, kids and teens,” says Bright Light’s founder and managing director, David Powley.

On recommendation from one of the studio’s members, Bright Light helped Kurt’s vision come to life – adding a creative edge to the light, open and welcoming space.

Customisable design

“The lighting concept involved six three-metre wide crosses, custom-built from Bright Light’s Highline 05 50mm luminaire and powder-coated black,” explains David.

Constructed using LED ribbon in 4000K natural white, the crosses provide a well-lit and inviting space with a “natural light feel”, and were suspended in a line above the main punching bag and mat work area. One cross pendant was also used over the kitchen.

The main feature of The Box Office though, is the impressive custom-built square pendant that measures three metres in diameter. Suspended directly over the boxing ring – also constructed using the Highline 05 50mm – it creates a stunning effect and is a significant talking point in the studio.

Even the largest installations can be shipped across the world in their unassembled form and easily slotted together on site.

Ticking the box in both form and function, the modular nature of Bright Light’s Highline 05 luminaire product makes it suited to any instalment, and can be transported locally and internationally without any fears of damage: “Even the largest installations can be shipped across the world in their unassembled form and easily slotted together on site,” says David.

The lights are available in extra warm white, warm white or natural white, and can be suspended or surface mounted. Fully dimmable, this linear LED lighting solution can also be cut to length to suit any application – whether it be for a pendant over a kitchen island, as practical lighting in a workspace, or pieced together as a statement installation at a hotel’s foyer entrance.

The overall lighting effect at The Box Office is assisted with the use of RGB lighting installed behind a large wall mirror and along two of the wall trims, providing a pop of colour to the space. Bright Light’s ‘Unipro track’ and ‘Metro track’ lights have also been used in key locations for spot lighting of wall artwork. The result is an inviting space for people to work out and improve their health, mind and body.

Bright Light’s solutions certainly offer more than a practical light source – they’re artworks in themselves that add personality and a creative edge to any commercial or residential space. And with Bright Light’s ability to locally produce custom-build large-scale luminaries with a fast turnaround, it’s simple to add knockout lighting solutions to your space.
