Poliform embodies a refined elegance in everything they create, from furniture to cabinetry, with meticulous attention to detail and finesse. This same exceptional craftsmanship now extends to their first outdoor collection, whereby Poliform reinterprets the link between people, nature and landscape to create functional beauty for outdoor living spaces.
The outdoor pieces were designed by Jean-Marie Massaud, Emmanuel Gallina, Marcel Wanders and Soo Chan, each designer interpreting Poliform’s vision of living in the outdoors, shares Poliform’s Group Head of Marketing, Michelle McEwen.
“Inspired by the fluidity of spaces and the importance of our connection to the outdoors, the collection has the same qualities as Poliform's indoor pieces, including elegance, timeless style and excellent design.”
This celebrated team of creatives has perfectly captured Poliform’s vision for outdoor living. While each designer brings their own unique perspective, they are all united by a shared dedication to quality and beauty. Here, we explore the latest collections and discover how the designers have brought Italian elegance to the Australian outdoors.
Having collaborated with brands such as B&B Italia, Axor Hansgrohe, Dior, Poltrona Frau, Lancôme and Renault, Jean-Marie Massaud knows a thing or two about European elegance.
For Poliform, he created the Ketch collection, drawing inspiration from the nautical world. The Ketch Sofa represents a sail stretched between the two masts of a boat, with a flexible backrest supported by a clean-lined and solid structure made of solid iroko. The Ketch armcchair complements the sofa, with its solid lines and generous volume. To accompany the Ketch seating, the Ketch coffee table echoes the robust feel of the sofa with solid iroco legs, and options for slats or glass. Completing the Ketch collection is the nautical-inspired Ketch sunbed, featuring an iroko frame, reclining backrest, made even more comfortable by the headrest cushion, which conceals a functional compartment for storing towels and accessories.
Further contributing to Poliform’s outdoor collections, Massaud designed an outdoor version of the iconic Le Club armchair. Imitating the comfort of the original indoor chair, the arms are curved and soft, with a knitted water-repellant fabric suitable for outdoor use.
To describe his work as a designer, Emmanuel Gallina likes to quote Constantin Brancusi: “Simplicity is complexity resolved.” This motto is evident in the Magnolia outdoor collection which showcases elegance and clarity. The collection encompasses the Magnolia sofa, Magnolia armchair, seating and sunbed, and derives inspiration from the sinuous structures and fluid lines of magnolia tree branches. Completing Gallina’s Magnolia Collection is the sophisticated Magnolia sunbed, seamlessly combining graceful design with discreet reclining technology for ultimate comfort. Made from iroko wood, it features understated cushioning and wheels for effortless mobility.
In addition to the Magnolia collection Gallina designed the immutable and anchoring Monolith outdoor table, which is part of the Monolith collection of robust tables. The Monolith features a thin top, in Cementoskin® or basalt stone, enhancing the sculptural solidity of the bases, while the rounded lines offer a biophilic softness.
Known as a rock star of the design world, Marcel Wanders is a legendary designer of our time. Rocketing to stardom in 1993 when he exhibited his now iconic Knotted Chair at the Droog design exhibition in Milan, the co-creator of Moooi now has pieces exhibited in museums all around the world. Lending his avant-garde style to Poliform’s latest outdoor collections, he conceived the Mad Out collection, which reinterprets the soft and curved lines of the iconic Mad Collection and features sophisticated weaving techniques. The Mad Out sofa and armchair showcase hand-woven rope backrests that enable air and light to filter through while retaining the style and solidity of an indoor sofa.
Accompanying padded seating collection, a series of coffee tables with lava stone top in two different shades can be embellished with a glass powder decoration, which creates an interesting contrast between opaque and shiny surfaces.
Renowned architect Soo Chan believes architecture is a way of life and he brings this holistic poun of view to Poliform’s outdoor collections Desiging the Soori Day Lounge as a relaxing island where one can connect with nature, this opulent round day bed with a laidback backrest perfectly balances architectural elegance with comfort.
