Why designers, architects & builders are turning to BEV fireplaces for clean-lined, flue-free heating that fits seamlessly into sustainable Australian home design.
BEV fireplaces provide a versatility for designers that other fireplaces can't match.
In modern Australian architecture, the shift toward sustainable, flexible design is more than a trend—it’s a guiding principle. As homes evolve to meet new environmental standards and smarter living demands, one element quietly redefining interior heating is the fireplace. Specifically, BEV (Burning Ethanol Vapour) fireplaces are emerging as a popular choice among forward-thinking architects, designers, builders and developers.
Decoflame Net Zero Fireplaces is helping redefine the role of the fireplace in modern homes, offering BEV technology that prioritises clean design and conscious living.
“There's a significant shift towards eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient design,” says Chris George from Decoflame Net Zero Fireplaces. “Homes are increasingly incorporating renewable resources like bamboo and recycled timber, alongside technologies such as net-zero fireplaces, solar panels and water recycling systems.”
Ideal for making bold design statements, this BEV fireplace from DecoFlame Net Zero Fireplaces showcases a contemporary look.

Sustainability built in
For builders, designers and architects focused on environmental impact, BEV fireplaces present a compelling alternative to traditional wood or gas units. Decoflame’s systems use bioethanol—a renewable, plant-based fuel that burns cleanly, emitting only water vapour and an almost immeasurable amount of carbon dioxide.
“BEV fireplaces burn ethanol vapour cleanly, producing no smoke, soot, or fine particulates,” Chris explains. “They contribute to better indoor and outdoor air quality, with high combustion efficiency and low energy waste.”
Importantly, these systems do not require chimneys or flues. This not only simplifies compliance with Australian building regulations but also opens up new possibilities in terms of placement and design.
Design freedom and flexibility
For deisgners and architects, one of the most attractive qualities of Decoflame’s BEV fireplaces is their placement versatility.
“Their compact, modular design allows installation almost anywhere—walls, corners, or custom niches,” says Chris. “This makes BEV systems an ideal solution for contemporary homes seeking versatile, efficient, and stylish fireplaces.”
Without the structural constraints of a flue or gas connection, BEV fireplaces can become bold design statements or subtle architectural features. Available in built-in, freestanding, or suspended formats, they work across a wide variety of aesthetics, from minimal and modern to warm and industrial.

Smart, safe and seamless
Modern heating isn’t just about heat—it's also about control. BEV fireplaces from Decoflame are engineered for the smart home era, offering remote control, app connectivity, and integration with platforms like Alexa and Google Home.
“Models such as the Decoflame F6 offer smart home compatibility, allowing users to control settings via apps or voice commands,” says Chris. “Compared to traditional ethanol fireplaces, BEV systems automate fuel delivery and ignition, reducing safety risks and enhancing ease of use.”
These built-in safety features—like flame sensors and automatic shutoff—also aid in meeting compliance requirements, offering peace of mind alongside performance.
The new standard in clean flame
For residential and even light commercial use, BEV fireplaces are redefining what a fireplace can be. Their emissions are minimal, they require no venting, and their real flame adds ambience without the hassle of ash or smoke.
“We’re seeing demand for clean, stylish, low-maintenance heating solutions—especially in urban homes and apartments,” says Chris. “BEV fireplaces offer exactly that.”
In particular, Decoflame Net Zero Fireplaces is leading this space in Australia. Their commitment to safety, sustainability, and smart design is helping shape the future of fireplace integration in modern architecture.
“The future of fireplace design is clearly moving towards sustainable, clean, and stylish solutions,” Chris concludes. “And BEV technology will play a pivotal role.”
