Hettich Australia’s new Sydney Experience Centre reflects a broader shift in interior design, where cabinetry hardware is being considered earlier and experienced more directly.

Hardware has traditionally sat behind the surface of an interior. Increasingly, however, the way drawers move, doors fold and storage reveals itself is becoming part of the design language itself.

That shift frames the opening of Hettich Australia’s new Sydney Experience Centre within the Waterloo Design Centre. Designed as a hands-on environment rather than a conventional showroom, the space gives architects, interior designers, cabinetmakers and builders the opportunity to experience cabinetry systems in context.

The centre unfolds through a series of residentially inspired settings, including kitchen pantries, wardrobes, outdoor kitchens and alfresco spaces. Within these environments, systems such as AvanTech YOU Illumination, Actro 5D runners, WingLine folding doors, Cadro framing and integrated lighting can be tested as part of complete interior compositions rather than viewed as isolated components.

This matters because hardware now influences much more than utility. Movement, access, lighting and storage are all part of how an interior feels in use, and increasingly, how it is specified.

The new Experience Centre also strengthens Hettich’s presence within Sydney’s design community. Its location inside Waterloo Design Centre places it within a broader design destination, giving specifiers a dedicated setting to engage with Hettich’s systems in context.

Officially opened by Philipp Rode, Asia Pacific Director at Hettich, and Martin Gane, Managing Director of Hettich Australia, the centre signals a growing recognition that the most effective interior decisions are often made when products can be understood through use, not just specification sheets.
