When builders design their own homes, the products they choose speak volumes. Tim Pearson, a builder from the South Island, used Triboard TGV to line the walls of his earthquake-resistant home, prioritizing strength, durability, and style.
Opting for a plasterboard-free build, Tim chose Triboard TGV due to its superior durability, which is essential for homes in quake-prone regions. Paired with SIP panels and a concrete thermal mass bracing wall, Triboard TGV ensured that his house could withstand the challenges of its environment while also providing a refined, clean look.
"The decision was simple," Tim says. "Triboard TGV stood out for its appearance and durability. Other products would have required more dwangs and back blocking, but Triboard saved time and money." All offcuts were used under doors, windows and bulkheads, leaving minimal waste.
With its tongue-and-groove system, Triboard TGV's lightweight panels allow for a one-person installation, significantly speeding up the project.
Tim's attention to detail extended to the aesthetics, as he mitred and glued external corners for a seamless finish. The slightly routed edges gave the walls a soft yet robust appearance, and the TGV grooves aligned perfectly with ply linings where possible. Gluing and secret nailing thru the tongue removes the need for filling and sanding of holes, also sped up the process.
Tim originally built an elevated bed platform in his son's bedroom, but as his son grew, he modified the bed to a lower height. This made minor screw hole damage repairs to the Triboard easy, compared to plasterboard, where adjustments would have been a major hassle.
Finishing the project was equally efficient, as Tim required no plastering. As Triboard TGV has a 5+ finish ready for paint, Tim primed both sides before installation, spraying two top coats on the facing side and sanding in between coats. The result was a home that stands strong and looks exceptional, proving that Triboard TGV is the go-to solution for builders looking for both form and function.

Welcome to Juken New Zealand Ltd (“JNL”). We are a New Zealand (“NZ”) based and registered company with a growing global outreach. We have been heavily involved with the NZ forestry and wood-processing industries for the past 30 years – manufacturing advanced and innovative wood products from selectively planted, managed and harvested Radiata Pine for local and export markets. In that time we have become important economic and cultural contributors to the local communities within which we operate.
In an age where wood is becoming increasingly recognised and re-established as a product of choice for many structural and non-structural applications, we can offer you high quality, fit-for-purpose products to meet your needs.
We have sustainably managed and certified plantation forests in the East Coast and Wairarapa regions of NZ’s North Island. We employ nearly 460 people and obtain goods and services from several hundred suppliers.
Research and development are important to us, and we also benefit from the technology and resources of our Japan-based parent company WoodOne Ltd, a major international housing materials and componentry company, which has invested over $NZ700 million into our Company and NZ.
