By Salmond Reed Architects
From the street – one of Auckland’s most prestigious - this unassuming transitional villa disguises the collection of rooms and spaces over three levels as it steps down the site on the northern slopes of Remuera.
Originally a single bay villa, the house has undergone several alterations including a basement development and a more recent kitchen and sitting room addition.
Our client's brief was comprehensive and planning a design to accommodate their requirements and work within strict building controls established from a preconditioned resource consent kept us on our toes!
The result is a substantial multi-level family home that shifts from character villa to sympathetic modern, as one moves through the house from front door to glazed balcony overlooking the green lawn of the rear yard.
From the front door is a glimpse of the modern family room addition at the rear and its bold lines and contemporary interior features. Architectural detailing inside and out is a strong-suit of SRA and this home delivers with its attractive and elegant features throughout. We pay particular attention to retaining proportions, features and finishing lines where present in a character home. An ability of our practice is to understand how and where to continue to use, modify or simplify these details with altered and new additions.
Together with the craft and skills of main contractor Shore Build, interior designer August Design and the artistic eye of the client, Salmond Reed Architects is thrilled with the outcome and the possibilities the renovated home gives our clients and their family for the years to come.
