Abbotsford Convent Magdalen Laundry

Built in the 1880s, the Magdalen Laundry is one of the historical buildings in the Abbotsford Convent campus, a nationally significant and state registered heritage site situated in the sweeping bend of the Yarra river in Abbotsford, Victoria.
This project entailed creating a space that could be utilised for multidisciplinary performance and exhibition purposes while retaining the heritage fabric. We worked closely with Williams Boag Architects and Connor Pincus consulting engineers on this restoration, activation and adaptation project.
We carefully selected a number of lighting fixtures that would provide general and accent lighting while still concealing many of the modern conveniences added to the project. We custom designed and manufactured our 9m long Roman linear pendants and also supplied a mix of surface and recessed downlights, step lights, wall lights and strip lights for the support and amenities areas.
With meticulous detailing and in-depth planning, our customised lighting solutions helped bring the space together delivering a unique, revitalised and highly functional venue.
