ATLASSIAN – Sydney Australia
BVN is working in collaboration with SHOP Architects, to build a stunning, sustainable sky-scraper, for tech giant Atlassian. When complete it will be the world's tallest hybrid timber tower based next to Central Station, Sydney.
The 40-storey building will become the centrepiece of a planned tech hub, which will eventually span the area from Central to nearby Redfern.
Comprising mass timber and a facade of glass and steel, the building will feature a staggered outdoor garden as well as self-shading to control temperatures. Once complete in 2025, it will accommodate up to 4000 Atlassian staff, and a YHA hostel on its lower levels.
Atlassian plans to take up the majority of the floors in the building, while the rest are likely to be occupied by other tech or start-up companies. It will operate on 100 per cent renewable energy and includes solar panels in its facade.
Sustainability is a key focus for the tower, which is being designed to last 100 years. It uses “cross-laminated timber” – a distinctively green building material, which helps minimise the need concrete and steel. BVN is a specialist in using CLT and other green materials, as part of its commitment to “regenerative architectural practice”.
Atlassian is due for completion in 2023.
