To design a contemporary sustainable kitchen for a renovation close to Melbourne with clean, simple lines in lighter tones.  Some of the requirements included: space for eating and homework/laptop, appliance cupboard, open shelves and areas for recycling and compost and bookshelves

Result

The natural strand bamboo brings a delightful depth of colour to the space and the natural grey concrete bench tops provide a lovely contrast.  The timber bookshelves and open shelves create lovely display areas for books, frames, ornaments and cups.

The island bench is wide enough for preparation on one side, with easy access to the in-bench compost and waste/recycling drawers under the sink.  The other side is a comfortable and convenient breakfast bar set-up for kitchen eating or space to sit.

Drawers, drawers and more drawers provide convenient, easy to reach, easy to clean storage.  Plates, appliances, cups, can all go into drawers as the quality soft close Blum drawer runners allow a minimum 40kg weight.

The finger-pull cut-outs allow easy drawer opening and keep to the brief of clean, simple lines.

The kitchen office area has additional powerpoints for device charging, small drawers for pens and stationery items and is set-up for easy use of a laptop.

The far end of the kitchen accommodates an underbench freezer, an appliance area for quick tea making and toast cooking and the fridge away from the main kitchen area.  The family can peruse the fridge and get drinks and snacks, without impacting on anyone cooking in the kitchen.
