Plywood, Glass and Copper Kitchen banner

This client gave us an open design brief to create a practical, sustainable and beautiful kitchen for an inner Sydney suburban apartment.  As a poet and entertainer, our client wanted a creative, unique solution for her kitchen.

A melange of materials and textures, this kitchen incorporates many elements to create its unique look.  Replacing a plain white kitchen; this kitchen is warm, inviting and practical.

The copper bench top is practical and easy to use and will continue to develop its patina over time.  The cleaning process adds to the bench top patina and it is expected to change and evolve.

The right-hand shelving wraps around the side of the kitchen to provide display shelving/bookshelving as well as providing a screen for the sink area.  The red and brown recycled timbers bring character and warmth.

Glass panels on the island bench provide an easy-to-clean surface beneath the island bench. The glass is also hardy and the soft green lightens the look and captures the light.

Designed for ease of cooking and use, drawers provide easy storage with soft close drawer runners.  The cutlery drawer and all the drawers are solid bamboo and well made with fingerjoints, so they won’t wear out before the rest of the kitchen does.  The pantry has two tall cupboards of shallow shelving so the items are easy to find.  Curved cut-outs are used instead of handles, creating a flat look and making the drawers and cupboard doors easy to open, even with using a palm, instead of fingers for times when you are in the midst of cooking and want to open a door or drawer quickly.

This is a contemporary plywood and recycled timber kitchen with glass, copper and bamboo elements is works well for an inner Sydney suburb close to the water that will last in style and durability for many many years to come.
