Bespoke Furniture

Having a background working in the Bunnings timber department for 8 years while studying and grandparents who ran several timber yards, our director has a keen interest in furniture design and woodworking. Below are several examples of Scott's bespoke pieces made from construction waste, discarded elements, or easily accessible materials recrafted and assembled in a unique way. With longevity and sustainability in mind, they are either made to last a lifetime or allow for disassembly in years to come. In the first year of architecture school at university, he was taught that when considering the success of a design, an ancient quote rings true, "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." Aristotle.   Key also to his furniture design, is the concept of 'Cradle-To-Cradle', coined by Braungart & McDonogh, allowing most of the works to be disassembled or reconfigured to serve new uses rather than having to be discarded as waste forever. For example, the credenza/TV unit's internal carcass is modular allowing for various configurations and can be replaced completely for a totally new configuration while preserving the valuable Western Australian Karri Timber exterior shell. Its stand can also be detached to fit a taller one, or one without different styled legs, should it be desired in years to come The final project included below involved designing and building a timber base for an expandable glass table-top mechanism, that had been acquired for a case of cold ones. The glass was originally from a small meeting room table, at which he secured his first full-time architectural role and is now used each evening when working from the home office.
