By Common Architecture
This low-lying linear house is located in the beach community of Sumner. Designed for a young family, the house focuses around a large lawn, which allows the children to play externally while their parents supervise internally. This courtyard approach also offers complete privacy from the street and surrounding properties. The rigorously modulated structure and pavilion-like exterior is derived from the textbook of California modern architecture.
Common is the combined architectural practices of CoLab's Tobin Smith and Architects' Creative's Kate and Daniel Sullivan. With a strong design-led focus, both practices share a commitment to intelligent and meaningful architecture with an emphasis on natural materials and engaging spaces.
Uninhibited by tradition, inspired by the past and resolutely optimistic about the future, we enjoy nothing more than making great buildings for great people.
