Mangapikopiko is a primary school of significance. The Ministry of Education is using the life cycle analysis collated by its architectural studio, Jasmax, to inform a low-carbon design study for future primary schools.
Located in Park Green, a new subdivision just south of Auckland, the design process for the 400-student school was a collaborative one that included students, teachers and the community. The resulting design is a flexible “ILE” – Innovative Learning Environment. Promoting a student-led approach to learning, the new build includes a two-storey learning block with six ILEs, a new library and an administration centre. A separate multi-purpose hall, plus a playground, sports field and basketball court round out the facilities.
Mangapikopiko was designed concurrently with Ngākōroa School. The design focus for both is to enhance whānau learning experiences and community participation.
Jasmax explains, “Together, the schools are setting a benchmark for contemporary and inclusive educational facilities in Aotearoa New Zealand and represent the continuing evolution in student-led approaches to learning, championed in ground-breaking educational campuses.”
For both school design projects, Jasmax chose Millennium Nxtgen carpet tiles from modulyss. The prerequisites for carpet selections included sustainability, durability, budget and colour options.
Nxtgen commercial carpet tiles are made with 100% regenerated ECONYL yarn, with some 36 colours rated Cradle to Cradle Gold and the rest Cradle to Cradle Silver.
Modulyss quick ship a selection of neutrals, and we hold a dozen colours in stock in Auckland.
