Christchurch Central Police Station

CLIENT:  NZ Police

LOCATION:  Christchurch

Apollo was engaged in early 2012 to design and deliver the new 7,600m² single story Police Station. Hand over of Stage One was completed in December 2012 and the majority of Police Staff were in by Christmas.

The Christchurch Central Police Station houses all policing functions including general Police enquiries, Southern Communications Call Centre, Crime & Investigations, Custodial Services, Dogs Services, Community & Youth, Armoury & Munitions and Vehicle services. The structural design meets Importance Level 4 (IL4) code requirements for critical infrastructure buildings.

Due to liquefaction potential with the site, Apollo was instrumental in developing an innovative ground stabilisation solution minimising this risk from future events – at a fraction of the cost of standard ground improvement techniques. The result was the development of a 400mm thick concrete raft foundation covering 8,300m². This pour set the record for the South Island's largest continuous concrete pour within a 12 hour period.
