Clearwater House

Clearwater House is located just 20 minutes’ drive from central Christchurch, nestled in Clearwater Resort. The brief for the project was to provide a timeless design that was in keeping with this luxurious modern-day castle whilst ensuring the expansive vistas out to golf greens, and the Southern Alps, were maximised. This home is private at the front and opens up to an entertainer’s paradise to the back. Working closely with the Architect to ensure each and every detail was thought through, it was important that landscape elements were not dwarfed by the home. The open plan kitchen, dining and living space flows seamlessly out to the entertainment area where you will find the perfect outdoor space. The gas fire, built in bar and electric retractable louvre roof create the perfect relaxing outdoor space that extends outdoor living into the cooler months. While the stunning infinity-edge heated swimming pool is not only a perfect addition to the landscape but also combats the level changes of the property and draws your eye to the vistas beyond. Simple elements such as concrete insitu steppers with planting between provides a softness that moves you around the garden, and is the perfect juxtaposition to the hard landscaping of the entertaining area. To further place this home in its environment, the materials used both on the inside and outside of the home have been incorporated into the landscaping ensuring seamless continuity and developing an area that draws the home owners outside, enhancing their indoor-outdoor flow. This home was a further collaboration between O’Neill Architects, Metzger Builders and OuterSpace Landscapes. Photo Credit: Stephen Goodenough
