Renovation of a Traditional Queensland Home
The brief was to bring this traditional Queenslander back to her former glory and modernise into a large family home. The extensive renovation involved the demolition of the existing kitchen and bathroom, stripping off the paint on all internal VJ walls and external cladding and removal of old carpet. Care was taken to retain as many of the traditional elements as possible. The upper level was reconfigured to accomodate 4 bedrooms, including the Master with ensuite and large dressing room, as well as a bathroom and living area. A private side entrance leads to the newly constructed lower level of the home. With an open plan layout, the timeless black and white kitchen are centrally positioned to allow for a connection to the dining and living areas. Glass louvres throughout allow for cross ventilation as well as views of the pool. The laundry and third bathroom are located downstairs along with the 5th bedroom which has external access through glass sliding doors making it an ideal work-from-home space.
The internal staircase, connecting the two levels, is flooded with natural light from a large bay of glass louvres. Custom 2-pac joinery has been used throughout along with a neutral colour pallet of whites, greys, and blacks. Grey travertine tiles were selected as the pool coping tile for their timeless appeal, heat resistance and non-slip rating. Timber decking was used for the pool surrounds and alfresco area.
