Decoflame BEV Net Zero Fireplaces bring natural flame, supplementary heat and architectural freedom to Perle at East Side Quarter, a landmark 173-residence development in Penrith designed by Turner for James Place and constructed by Astina Group.
Natural flame, no gas, no flue: Decoflame selected for Perle at East Side Quarter, Penrith
Decoflame BEV fireplaces have been selected for Perle at East Side Quarter in Penrith, a landmark 173-residence development by James Place, designed by Turner and being constructed by Astina Group. The project demonstrates how Burning Ethanol Vapour technology can introduce natural flame and supplementary heat into contemporary multi-residential architecture without the infrastructure traditionally associated with gas fireplaces.
Western Sydney's residential landscape is evolving, and Perle at East Side Quarter (ESQ), Penrith is one of the projects helping define its next generation.
Located at 18 Ransley Street, Penrith, Perle is the fourth stage of the East Side Quarter precinct. Designed by Turner for developer James Place, with interiors by Bayley Wards, landscaping by OCULUS and construction by Astina Group, the development comprises 173 residences including apartments, penthouses and terrace homes. TURNER
The project combines residential living with an extensive lifestyle offering, including interconnected green spaces, a 1,000sqm lakefront dining precinct, rooftop infinity pool, wellness facilities, private gardens, concierge services and private resident dining. TURNER
For the fireplace specification, Decoflame Net Zero Fireplaces have been selected across key residences, bringing electronically controlled BEV — Burning Ethanol Vapour — fireplace technology into the project.
Why BEV fireplace technology suits contemporary apartment design
Traditional fireplaces can introduce substantial infrastructure considerations into multi-residential design, particularly where gas connections, traditional flues and associated service pathways need to be accommodated.
Decoflame takes a fundamentally different approach.
Rather than burning liquid ethanol directly, Decoflame's electronically controlled BEV technology creates and burns ethanol vapour, producing a natural flame and supplementary heat without requiring a gas connection or traditional chimney or flue.
For architects, designers and builders, the proposition is straightforward:
Natural Flame. No Gas. No Flue.
And from an architectural perspective:
Less infrastructure. More design freedom.
This combination is particularly relevant to premium apartments, where efficient use of floor area, services coordination and flexibility in interior planning can materially influence design outcomes.
34 Decoflame fireplaces selected for Perle
The current Decoflame package for Perle comprises 34 fireplaces: 31 Decoflame F3 920 BEV fireplaces and three Decoflame Austin freestanding fireplaces.
The F3 920 provides a 920mm-wide architectural fireplace format with electronic control, remote operation, automatic refilling and multiple heat settings. Its linear flame is designed to integrate into contemporary joinery and architectural fireplace surrounds without the conventional infrastructure required by a gas fireplace.
The Austin provides the same broader Decoflame philosophy in a freestanding format, allowing natural flame to become an architectural feature without requiring a traditional built-in fireplace.
Together, the two formats allow the fireplace solution to respond to different residences and interior configurations while retaining a consistent design language.
A fireplace specification aligned with a design-led development
Perle has been conceived as more than a conventional apartment development.
Turner describes the project as bringing together interconnected green spaces, resort-style amenities and sustainable design elements to create a community focused on wellness and connection with nature. TURNER
That philosophy also reflects the broader approach of developer James Place, which identifies sustainability, innovation, design excellence, community engagement and wellbeing among the principles underpinning its developments. James Place
The selection of Decoflame provides a fireplace solution suited to that contemporary approach: natural flame and supplementary heat without introducing a gas connection or traditional flue system into the residences.
It also demonstrates an increasingly important shift in fireplace specification.
For architects designing premium apartments and contemporary homes, the question is no longer simply where can a conventional fireplace be installed?
BEV technology creates the opportunity to ask:
Where does the architect want the flame?
Designing around the architecture, rather than the flue
Removing the requirement for a traditional chimney or flue can provide considerably greater flexibility when coordinating a fireplace with apartment planning, joinery and interior architecture.
It can also reduce the need to design around conventional vertical flue pathways and gas infrastructure.
That does not eliminate the need for careful fireplace design. Decoflame installations must still comply with the applicable model's installation requirements, including requirements relating to non-combustible construction, clearances, room volume, ventilation, electrical supply and other technical considerations.
But within those parameters, BEV technology provides architects with a different design tool.
The fireplace can become an integrated architectural element rather than an appliance whose location is principally dictated by conventional gas and flue infrastructure.
Danish fireplace technology for Australian multi-residential architecture
Designed and manufactured in Denmark, Decoflame has developed electronically controlled bioethanol fireplace systems for projects where natural flame, architectural flexibility and advanced electronic control are priorities.
Depending on the selected model and configuration, the broader Decoflame range offers features including electronic fuel management, automatic refilling, adjustable flame and heat levels, remote operation, app connectivity, Smart Home integration and integrated electronic safety systems.
The technology is increasingly relevant as Australian architects, builders and developers consider alternatives to conventional gas fireplaces for new residential projects.
Perle demonstrates how that technology can translate from an individual luxury residence into a significant multi-residential development.
Perle: a new benchmark for Penrith
Perle forms part of the wider East Side Quarter masterplan and is positioned on the lakefront within the emerging Penrith precinct.
The project comprises two residential towers and an extensive mix of residential, hospitality and wellness amenity. Public project information identifies construction as underway, with completion anticipated in 2027. Realestate
For Decoflame, its selection for Perle represents another significant Australian multi-residential specification and demonstrates the role BEV fireplace technology can play in the next generation of premium apartment design.
For James Place, Turner and Astina Group, the project brings together architecture, construction, landscape, amenity and technology around a broader vision for contemporary Western Sydney living.
And within the residences themselves, the fireplace proposition remains deliberately simple:
Natural Flame. No Gas. No Flue.
Less infrastructure. More design freedom.
