Few things shape the future, like the freedom of collective imagination.

A workspace designed to cultivate the potential of users and inspire extraordinary thinking demands a deep understanding of how the environment affects both behaviour and cognition. Coupled with a long term tenancy, the requirements to craft a flexible space where innovation could thrive and learning flourish created a challenge that needed fresh ideas to address.

We were appointed to lead the design of the Wavespace within 200 George Street, Sydney, creating a benchmark regional destination of digital innovation for EY Asia Pacific. Our team’s research and experience, across the workplace and education, brought a ready understanding of the impact of design on behaviours and we identified the opportunity to inform both conscious and unconscious thought to foster innovative outcomes.

EY was investing in an environment to support it for a minimum of ten and a potential 15-year period of occupancy, so developing a framework with the inherent ability to evolve without physical change or capital cost was paramount. A considered application of technology, flexibility and modularity of components, with a capacity to manage digital content, facilitated a solution intuitive to change and simplistic in an application, whilst supporting the ability to continually evoke a changing user experience.

The Wavespace provides a physical environment to foster enriched experiences for EY clients, partners and people. The environment, and the behaviours it evokes, reflect and inform the innovation of the EY brand being intrinsic in its DNA. Most importantly, the environment enhances the EY customer proposition in an increasingly competitive market and the facility is an opportunity to attract industry talent, attracted to EY’s leadership in digital change.
