Healthy Homes

During many years working in the construction industry in New Zealand and previously in the United Kingdom, Ian Chamberlain has witnessed the real benefits a warm, healthy home can have on the people living in it. This led him to research further to find effective ways of building more energy efficient homes, with reduced internal moisture levels and using sustainable and environmentally products where possible.

The New Zealand Building Code requires only the lowest level of energy efficiency and moisture protection performance in a home. Chamberlain Homes will only build houses that suitably exceed these codes to ensure they are fit for purpose.

The homes shown here were all built to specifications well above those required by the NZ Building Code.  Rather than walls being just 90mm wide, we made them 140mm wide. This allowed us to install thicker insulation to ensure more warmth in winter and reduce heat build-up in summer.

We also installed a double layer of insulation in the ceiling, and Earthwool® glasswool insulation was used throughout for its high-quality thermal performance and environmentally friendly and sustainable features.

ThermalHEART aluminium window joinery was used in all the homes, as it provides thermal performance up to 35% better than standard double-glazed windows. ProClima wall and roof wraps were used for their high-performance and durable quality.
