Working with one of Australia’s leading interior designers, Life Style Store was a part of one of the most extensive home remodels to ever have graced the streets in Hunters Hill. With the ‘non-negotiable’ use of marble finishes, the conversion of a staircase to a lift, and the replacement of the roof to give the upstairs bedrooms a 3m ceiling height, this project carried a huge expectation to deliver a marvel of technology to match the feat of engineering implied during the construction of the house. The decadent use of marble throughout this new house in the Sydney suburb of Hunters Hill is a testament to the designer; book-matched marble features grace almost every vantage point. Punctuated by polished brass highlights, signature geometric prints, and custom lighting throughout; the design is unmistakably Greg Natale. Inspired from the 1950s the home forms a visceral appeal, with bespoke craftmanship using tactile materials, creating an experience that draws both the eyes and the touch. However, lying beneath the surface is a plethora of technology, a beating electronic heart to a home with its soul firmly planted in a time where the lines between art, architecture, and artisans blur. The real magic comes from the way all this automation vanishes into the customers' life. There are 37 Snow white Control4 6 button keypads, installed into hand-finished Stucco walls, invisible until you need to beckon an entertaining scene. Hidden IR sensors trigger lights telepathically as you walk through the house, illuminating stairs, hallways, and bathrooms to varying levels depending on the time of day, while the 13 audio zones are equalised and tuned to ensure their best is heard at all volumes, whether a quiet wine tasting in the cellar or an 18th birthday party with guests on the terrace. Fireplaces grace the inside and the outside, triggered by Control4 when dipping temperatures cannot be mitigated by floor heating alone. The home also features an extensive intercom system including five in-wall touchscreens which receive calls from four Control4 DS2 Doorstations, all with unique user codes for trades to enter the house if required, and when they do, notifications and snapshots are all sent directly to the customer. A room that impresses everyone is definitely the home theatre, with custom upholstered theatre chairs to match the acoustically treated walls, a custom zebrawood cabinet that houses a flagship Denon receiver, 2 subwoofers, and a Paradigm speaker system. The picture is taken care of by a Sony laser projector and a high-gain screen. It was proof that you didn’t have to sacrifice the audio-visual performance of a room to satisfy an aesthetic target.
